We sat down with Abhishek Vernekar to find out more about the author.
Hi, Abhishek. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. Before we dive into your latest white paper, let’s learn about the author! Can you tell us a bit about your background and your role at AFL Hyperscale?
I am the Assistant Manager of Application Engineering in the AFL Hyperscale India office. Having studied to be Mechanical Engineer, I have been working in the connectivity industry for nearly a decade. After graduating, I began my career as a Product Engineer, working with fiber optic products and solutions for data centers, harsh environments, and telecom networks.
Later on, I had an opportunity to deal with the manufacturing of these products, as well as the design of processes, as a Process Engineer.
In my current role, I serve as a bridge between our customers, Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing, facilitating the sales process by identifying customer requirements and mapping the best solution AFL Hyperscale has to offer.
What first drew you to AFL Hyperscale?
Throughout my career, I have always been curious about the actual use of fiber optic products and how can I make them better. This is what led me to my role at AFL Hyperscale in Application Engineering.
AFL Hyperscale is a very focused solution provider. This focus helps everyone work to their strengths and has inspired me to study and gain hand-on experience with fiber optic technology and a comprehensive understanding connectivity demands in the data centers.
What has been your favourite project you have been involved in so far? What has been your proudest moment or greatest achievement?
I have been with AFL Hyperscale since our office in India first opened and have been instrumental in various product development, localization, and business development activities. I would say that everything we have achieved in this time is not only my favourite project so far but also my proudest moment and greatest achievement.
Speaking of achievements, your white paper concerning Understanding 10G to 400G Ethernet Speeds, Transceivers, and Selecting the Correct Fiber Optic Connectivity for Your Data Center has just been released. What inspired the creation of this piece?
Through my interactions with various customers and colleagues, I realized that not much of the knowledge regarding this topic has been documented and accumulated in one place for someone to study. This was my inspiration to work on this white paper. I wanted it to be a guide that was relevant for a wide audience hence the area of focus spanning 10G to 400G.
As the next milestone in the Ethernet speed race is 800G and then 1.6TB, there is a lot of work ahead of us in near future!
Can you give us a sneak preview or overview as to what the white paper discusses?
There is a lot of information available regarding transceivers and the speeds at which they operate, however, very little information is available on the fiber optic connectivity needed to connect these transceivers. This white paper will give you an overview of various types of transceivers, their transmission mode, and the type of fiber optic cabling and connectivity required.
What would you say is driving this migration to 400G?
From increased home working and virtual meetings to the Internet of Things and 5G, unprecedented demand is being placed on physical layer infrastructure to support the required speed and bandwidth. This requirement is a driving force in the migration from 100G to 400G and, eventually, 800G and 1.6TB
How can AFL Hyperscale help customers achieve these speeds?
In my mind, it’s very simple. AFL Hyperscale has the right products with right specifications to help customers grow their networks and meet this ever-increasing need for speed!
